Go Bears!

Bears win, Bears win!

While many people in the Seattle area are bummed about the end of the Seahawks season, you can tell we're not. I thought the game would be a blowout -- and had Tillman made that early interception it might have been -- but the Seahawks played pretty well and sent the game to overtime. There the Seahawks achilles heel -- poor pass defense -- did them in once again.

Bring on the 'aints.

A funny story about the ending of the game. Monica ordered pizza for lunch which arrived just before overtime, so I paused the game on TiVo and was watching the game delayed by about a minute. As the Bears lined up to kick the field goal, I got concerned because the phone wasn't ringing (my dad wasn't calling after the win). Finally as they got ready to snap the ball, the phone rang and we knew the kick was good even before the snap.

Glad I could be part of your story. Now the question is, "Can the Bears beat New Orleans" and if they do, do you want to plan on sending a future blog from the Super Bowl? After all, the Bears make it to a Championship once every 20 years.

The Saints are a great story improving from 3-13 to the NFC Championship game, especially the way they've energized New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. And the Bears defense isn't the same without Tommie Harris up front. So I understand why a lot of people are behind the Saints.

But, you have to consider that the Saints are a team that went 10-6 despite playing one of the easiest schedules in the league. Yep, the Bears schedule was easy too but at least they were 13-2 before the last week. You'd be hard pressed to find any rating system that says the Saints are even close (within a couple of points) to the Bears. Better team plus home field advantage should be a win.

But as we all know the better team doesn't always win -- see both AFC games yesterday. And in a close game, anything can happen. The Seahawks were darn close to being in the NFC Championship after being only a 20% chance to win with a minute left the week before. They were also close to being down 14-0 early yesterday.

Or in summary, the Bears are all-in with a pair of aces against a flush draw. It's a great place to be, but there's also a 1 in 3 chance you're about to go home. And of course that's a lot better than San Diego and Baltimore who are drawing dead.
